Thanksgiving Holiday

My Thanksgiving Holiday

The first ever person to celebrate Thanksgiving was an explorer. His name was Martin Forbish. He was on a long journey to Orient. Once he had succeeded he had a celebration in what is now known as Newfoundland and Labrador for thanking that he had survived the long journey in 1578. Thanksgiving is usually celebrated in October on the second Monday of the month. Unlike the United States we usually focus on being thankful on harvest, but things are changing, which results in many other things to be thankful for. This holiday is usually based upon thanking god on everything that you receive or are thankful for. However, the theme does slightly change each year. Sometimes it is based on harvest and always on thanking as a family. Simply, it is just remembering all the things that you are thankful for throughout the course of the year. Not only this, but also based upon your whole life so far.

My family does not actually celebrate Thanksgiving, but the presence is in our heart. We do thank God for what we have and the fact that our lives run fairly smooth everyday. We do not eat turkey and have a big feast with other relatives, but we do discuss the idea of it slightly. Even if you do not celebrate Thanksgiving it is still there and our family recognizes that. For this reason we are thankful for everything we have and this is always present in our hearts. In my family we try to remember to be thankful almost all the time and even if we do not take the time to sit down and celebrate, the basic idea is always around. My family is thankful for shelter, food, clothes and that we are alive. My sister and I also thank that we have parents that love and care for us because many people do not get the same opportunity. Being alive is an important thing to be thankful for, even if it may seem unusual to do so. This is so because so many people around the world die everyday just from starving or the lack of basic needs. This is the one thing that always pops into my mind when I am thinking of being thankful, because it is a privilege to get basic needs and much more on top of that. On the whole, I think Thanksgiving is a very important holiday. Not only does it remind you to be thankful, but it makes a connection throughout the world. Hopefully some day everybody will be able to have basic needs and get the privilege to things that us Canadians have.
